This points fingers at Ford's plan to launch the SUV sometime soon. The 5-seater Ford EcoSport is built on the same platform as the Fiesta sedan. The EcoSport will be launched only with a petrol engine that has advance technology found only in premium cars.Ford had unveiled the EcoSport compact life style SUV at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo and from then rumours have been doing rounds about the launch date of the SUV. Reports were that the EcoSport will be launched by end of this year, but latest news is that the SUV has been found testing in the country.
The new, award-winning EcoBoost engines take the turbocharge and direct injection technologies found in advanced diesel engines and pushes them even further. The result is a more compact petrol engine that delivers power to rival a traditional 1.6L petrol engine, but uses up to 20% less fuel.
The EcoSport is expected to be priced just over the Fiesta sedan which will keep it just over Rs.10 lakhs. The EcoSport is shorter than four meters in length bringing it under the compact car segment thereby keeping the price down.
Meanwhile, there has been reports that Ford India will soon invest more than Rs. 750 Crore in its Chennai plant to build the EcoSport compact SUV. The carmaker is expected to start building the SUV from this year.
