The
Nokia Lumia 920 is yet to make its debut on Indian shores. But while
we're still waiting, here's something that might be interesting. Reports
from The Verge
suggest that the Lumia 920's successor will reportedly feature an
aluminium exterior. Furthermore, the site has learned that the Finnish
handset manufacturer is also working on two new Lumia devices that will
be a part of the new Lumia lineup to be revealed later this year.
Citing "sources familiar with Nokia's plans", the site states that Nokia is planning to switch over from the polycarbonate plastic casing to an aluminium body, thereby making the phone much thinner and lighter. If this happens, then it could compete with the likes of Apple's iPhone.

Nokia not planning to launch an Android Phone
There were rumors in the air regarding Nokia working on Android phones
as an ad appeared in LinkedIn calling for Engineers to work in Embedded
Linux middleware. However, Nokia has officially clarified that they are
not working on Android phones at this moment and the ad has also been
removed from LinkedIn. Nokia has made it also clear that they are only
working on their native maps app, Here for Android.
Embedded
Linux is core to Android OS and that is the reason why many assumed that
Nokia is starting to work on Android phones when they called for Linux
engineers. It may be recalled that Nokia is now bringing out more
Windows based phones and Linux is not a component to it. This fact too
made people guessing on a likely marriage of Nokia and Android OS.
Experts believe that Nokia may not think about switching to any other OS
than Windows for the time being as it would be a costly exercise and
Nokia is not in a position to take any such bigger financial
commitments.

Sony rises into smartphone top three; Nokia & HTC lose out big time
Sony Mobile seems to have turned the corner, or at least figured out which corner needs to be turned! The company is now comfortably in the third spot in the smartphone sales rankings. This has been established in the latest research from IDC, which states that in Q3’12, Sony holds a 4.8% market share in the global smartphone market. This puts it solidly in third place, behind Samsung and Apple.
It is interesting to note that this market share percentage is down from 5% at the corresponding stage in 2011, but Sony has risen most because of the fall of Nokia and HTC. Nokia’s quarter on quarter market share dropped from 13.6% to 3.4%, while HTC dropped from 10.3% to 4.7%. RIM’s market share also fell, from 9.6% to 4.2%. For the top two, Samsung saw an increase from 22.7% to 31.3%, while Apple improved from 13.8% to 14.6%.
