There’s an app for just about everything these days. Our smartphones have a variety of sensors and meters in them that make all sorts of innovative functionality possible. For homeowners in particular, there are a variety of apps that make paying bills, performing routine maintenance around the house, and even monitoring your energy consumption as easy as opening an app on your phone. Here are some of the apps that are designed to make being a homeowner a little bit easier.

Free Angry Birds Friends released for iOS, Android; original game free on Windows Phone till May 15

Rovio has released Angry Birds Friends, the latest iteration in everyone's favorite pig popping adventures. The game is now available as a free download for iOS and Android.

Angry Birds Friends puts a social twist to the game you are familiar with, letting you challenge your Facebook friends for the title of ultimate bird flinger. Players have the option to compete in weekly tournaments with friends and see if they can snag the gold, silver or bronze trophies. This is similar to how Rovio has been offering the game Angry Birds on Facebook.

Apple acknowledges iOS 6 Do Not Disturb bug, claims normal functionality to resume after Jan 7

Apple has acknowledged the iOS 6 Do Not Disturb bug that was reported by some users on New Year's Eve. It also claimed that the service will start functioning without any bugs after January 7.

As reported earlier iOS 6's 'Do Not Disturb' feature, which basically allows a user to silent all calls, messages and notifications, reportedly went kaput for many users on New Year's Eve. Unsuspecting iOS 6 users found the scheduling of DND to be completely off track. A few of them found DND running on the phone without being switched by the user, while it wouldn't shut off for others.

Apple's support article confirmed that iPhone, iPad and iPod touch were all impacted by the issue, which all but confirms that it is a core iOS 6, not limited to a single device.

Apple also suggested users should manually turn notifications off and on as a workaround until 'normal service' is resumed post January 7.

Symptoms
After January 1st, 2013, Do Not Disturb mode stays on past its scheduled end time.
Resolution
Do Not Disturb scheduling feature will resume normal functionality after January 7, 2013. Before this date, you should manually turn the Do Not Disturb feature on or off.
To turn off the scheduling feature, tap Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturband switch Scheduled to Off.

Google updates iOS Search app with enhanced voice capabilities: Hands-on

Google is often referred to as the search giant and for good reason. The company is always experimenting with its search features to deliver the most accurate and relevant results, both on the web and through its apps. 

Speaking of relevant and accurate results, the latest update to the Google Search app for iOS brings improved voice recognition capabilities, which until now was appreciated only on its Android counterpart. 

The voice search inherits features from Google Now including the look, sounds and a voice assistant that reads the query results back to you, which are all definitely welcome additions. So, is the refreshed voice search app a threat to Apple's native Siri? We find out.

Download MS Office for iOS and Android to be released in March 2013

Sources close to Microsoft have hinted at the possibility of launching Microsoft Office softwarefor both iOS and Android powered devices. The report was confirmed by the company’s Product Manager Petr Bobek. He stated that Office 2013 will be released by March next year for iOS and Android platform.

This has been one of the long standing demands from Android and iOS users. They will now just have to wait a few more months to see MS office in their handheld devices. He also added that the company will be releasing native apps for its Windows 8 operating system also by March 2013.

EA Sports FIFA Soccer 13 Available for Apple iPhone and iPad Download Free

EA representative hinted that the launch of this game will be the biggest sports video game launch ever. EA will promote the game in North America with powerful ad campaigns through broadcast and digital media. Several sports celebrities have been signed up for the promotion of the game. 

EA informed that over 1 million pre-orders of FIFA has been made worldwide and over 4.6 million gamers have played the demo game for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. This is a 42% percent increase from what has been witnessed with FIFA 12. 2,94,000 users have played the demo in US alone which is a commendable achievement considering the fact that football is not popular in US as it is in other parts of North America. 

EA is giving gamers an opportunity to become a world champion by participating in FIFA Interactive World Cup which is one of the in-game modes. Last year, participation in the Interactive World Cup reached a staggering number of 1.3 million. EA is hopeful that this year there will be even more participation. 

The game will be available on PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PC, PS2,Playstation portable, Nintendo 3DS, Playstation Vita etc. In November, the game will extend its support to Nintendo Wii U gaming console. EA will also be releasing mobile version of the game for iPad and iPhone users.

Google reportedly working on Maps for iOS, but release months away

The rumours of Google working on maps app for iOS were further cemented today as The New York Times reported that the search giant is seeking to release the maps iOS app by the end of this year.

This is not the first time that we are hearing about end-of-year timeline, which was also touted in areport by TechCrunch. It is no surprise that Google is developing maps app for iOS devices given that iOS users constituted a large percentage of its mobile maps users before iOS 6 came along and changed all that.
