Sources close to Microsoft have hinted at the possibility of launching Microsoft Office softwarefor both iOS and Android powered devices. The report was confirmed by the company’s Product Manager Petr Bobek. He stated that Office 2013 will be released by March next year for iOS and Android platform.
This has been one of the long standing demands from Android and iOS users. They will now just have to wait a few more months to see MS office in their handheld devices. He also added that the company will be releasing native apps for its Windows 8 operating system also by March 2013.
Microsoft’s Czech Republic team stated, “In addition to Windows, Office will also be made available on other operating systems.”
The list includes Windows Phone, Windows RT, Mac OS, Android, iOS and Symbian. Company sources however hinted on a separate note about the possibility of a new version of Office web apps. There are also rumours about ‘Office for iPad’ being under development.
It would provide users with an enhanced experience while accessing Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents directly from Apple’s tablets. Sources claim that Office 2013 will be made available for businesses by December this year itself where as the consumer version will be released only by the end of February 2013.
However a US spokesperson for Microsoft stated that the company has not announced any details regarding the availability of the new Office. The spokesperson said that the company has only started its work on previous Office mobile versions on Windows, Android and iOS based phones. Microsoft later released an update stating, “The information shared by our Czech subsidiary is not accurate. We do not have anything further to share at this time.”
