Nokia
has been in the talks to unveil two smartphones powered by the Windows
Phone 8 operating system in September. Recently, Gizbot carried a report
stating Nokia and Microsoft are
sending invites for the press event to happen on September 5, 2012,
which is when the Nokia Lumia handsets are reported to be officially
unwrapped.
However,
there is a little crisis between the former smartphone manufacturers
including Samsung and Nokia. As the Finnish phone maker is the second
largest in the world making it interesting to observe its every move.
Nokia should have probably been affected as the Korean
manufacturer overtook its position as the leading mobile phone
manufacturer in the world. Though the Finnish handset maker was once a
powerful company, now, it is far behind the competition.
Hence
with the upcpoming September 5 event, Nokia is betting big, and the
rage can be felt by a latest move by a company official. Chris Weber, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing tweeted recently that “Samsung take note, next generation Lumia coming soon.”
According
to the guys over CNET, “Companies rarely call out specific competitors,
often keeping the corporate rhetoric to ambiguous and general
references. It’s a bold move by Weber, considering Samsung is the global
leader in smartphones, and Nokia’s share continues to slip. “
At
the same time their report also predicted that “It’s also unclear if
Weber was making a clever reference to the Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10.1,
which was unveiled in the U.S. On August 15, at an event in New York. As
Nokia hasn’t talked much about plans for a tablet.”
The
tweet clearly points out that the Finnish manufacturer is confident
about its new range of smartphones. Moreover, Nokia is well known for
its industrial design skills and its unique camera technology. However,
till the launch of the new Lumia device, this does not guarantee that
Nokia will defeat Samsung in the smartphone arena.
Although,
it wasn’t long ago when Nokia was the dominant smartphone maker
globally, a position now held by Samsung with 32.6 percent compared to
Nokia’s modest 6.5 percent share. But now analysts assume while Apple is
attacking Samsung in court, it seems quite a possibility that Nokia is
planning to challenge the manufacturer on the retail ramp.
Do you think Nokia will outshine Samsung with the next generation Lumia smartphones?
