Popular Japanese mobile phone manufacturer Sony has not yet released an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for any of its Xperia smartphone. However, according to a recent newsbreak, Sony has officially posted on its blogpost list of devices which will get the Google’s latest operating system upgrade starting mid Q1 2013.

Following that, Sony has confirmed that first the Xperia T and Xperia TX, which are in process of shipping to market will be receiving an update to Jelly Bean in the middle of Q1 2013. Further, Sony has also confirmed that the Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia J will receive Jelly Bean updates. However, for these phones, Sony did not have a timeline available. Sony says they will announce a timeframe for these phones to receive Jelly Bean “in due course.”

Amid all the good news, there is also a bad news for 2011 Xperia owners, as Sony has confirmed that the 2011 lineup will remain on ICS OS only.

Going by the records, the 2011 Xperia line includes devices like the Xperia Arc, Xperia Play and Xperia Neo. Sony informed, “These phones will continue to be supported through maintenance updates.” Further, the company did not mention about any update related information for its Xperia S tablet.
However, Sony has promised more updates in the future will be provided to the customers, as the company is working towards bringing Jelly Bean to its ever-widening product portfolio.
