*West Indian fast bowler Courtney Walsh was nicknamed Duracell for his ability to bowl very long spells.

*Sachin Tendulkar, Waqar Younis and Salil Ankola all made all made their debut in the same Test at Karachi in 1989.

*Brian Lara named his daughter Sydney after he scored 277 at the SCG in 1993 Vs Australia.

*Virender Sehwag, Don Bradman and Brian Lara are the only ones to have scored two triple centuries in Test cricket.

*The second day of the Lord's test match between England and West Indies in 2000 is the only time in the history of test cricket that a part of all 4 innings have been played on the same day. 

*Mohammed Azharuddin is the only Test cricketer to score three centuries in his first three tests.

*Marvan Atapattu's first six test innings were 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0.

*On the 1974 tour to England, Sudhir Naik was accused of stealing a pair of socks from Marks & Spencers.

*John Traicos is the only man to be born in one country and play test cricket for two other countries. He was born in Egypt and played test cricket for South Africa in the 1970s and then for Zimbabwe when they were awarded test status in the 1990s.

*The first one-day international was held between England and Australia at Melbourne in 1971. Actually the first four days of a test match had been rained out, so on the final day the first ever one-day international was organized. Australia won the match. 

*India was reduced to 0 for 4 at a stage in a match against England at Leeds in 1952.

*Gundappa Vishwanath, Mohammed Azharuddin, Saurav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag- have all scored centuries on their test debut for India. 

*Narendra Hirwani of India holds the record for the best bowling figures on test debut. He took 16 for 136 versus the West Indies. He broke Bob Massie's record of 16 for 137. 

*Anil Kumble of India needed 5 wickets to complete 100 test wickets in just his 20th test match and thus tie Erapalli Prasana for the record of the fastest Indian to reach 100 wickets. He took 4 wickets in the 1st innings. But he couldn’t take any wickets in the second innings as two catches were dropped off his bowling.. 

*Sri Lanka used different keepers in each match - Ashley de Silva, Pubudu Dassanayake and Romesh Kaluwitharna when they hosted India for a 3 test series in 1994.

*The only stadium to witness a first ball dismissal on its debut as a Test match centre is the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. Sunil Gavaskar was caught by Javed Miandad off Imran Khan on the first ball of the India-Pakistan test match in 1987 which was the stadium’s first match. 

*CK Nayudu once hit the ball into the River Rhea when playing at Edgbaston. Since the river is the boundary between Warwickshire and Worcestershire he is the only batsman to have sent a cricket ball from one county to another.

*David Boon stood as keeper for Australia in the World Cup in 1992 for one match against India. He gave no byes, took no catches, didn't effect any stumping but was involved in the winning run-out and this was his first and only appearance in the World Cup as the wicket keeper.

*One of the major controversies involving cricket umpires took place in the 1987 England tour of Pakistan, when umpire Shakoor Rana had an ugly on-field spat with the English cricket captain and also boycotted the match by refusing to officiate. 

*In a World Cup Match in 1975, Gavaskar batted throughout the 60 overs & scored only 36 runs . India lost to England by a huge margin of 203 runs.

*Because of extremely hot weather, drinks intervals were allowed every two overs in the Australia vs. New Zealand match at Melbourne in January 1988. 

*A match between Barbados and British Guyana in 1946 saw an over with 14 balls in which there were no wides or no balls. The 8 ball over was in force and the extra six deliveries were due to umpiring miscounting.

*Martin Crowe of New Zealand is the only person to have been out for 299. Don Bradman once scored 299*.

*Wilfred Rhodes(England) has batted at all 11 positions in test cricket. His feat was emulated by Vinoo Mankad (India).

*The record for the longest a batsman has been at the crease and not scored a single run in all first-class cricket was set in a Test match by Geoff Allott, New Zealand's number 11, who batted 101 minutes against South Africa at Auckland on 2 March 1999.

*In 1976, when Kerry Packer of the Nine Network failed to get the television rights for the Australian cricket season, he was infuriated and decided to setup his own tournament. With the help of English skipper Tony Greig, he setup the WSC which was an instant success. The WSC introduced day/night matches, batsmen wearing helmets, coloured clothing and the white ball. The end result of WSC was that the Australian Cricket board capitulated to Packer and awarded him the exclusive rights for cricket matches in Australia.

*Allan Border is the only batsman to have scored over 150 in both innings of a test match.

*The highest partnership in an ODI is 331 (for 2nd wicket) by Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid against New Zealand in Hyderabad in Nov 1999. They broke 318 for 2nd wicket by Saurav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid against Sri Lanka scored in 1999 World Cup at Taunton in May. In both the innings, even though Rahul made a century, was out scored by the other batsman and hence did not get the Man of Match award.

*On test debut Lawrence Rowe of West Indies scored 214* and 100*.

*Rusi Surti, who played for Queensland is the only Indian test cricketer who has played Sheffield Shield cricket in Australia.

*George Lohmann of England has the best bowling average (an astonishing 10.75 per wicket) and the best strike rate (a wicket every 34.1 balls). He also has the third best bowling analysis of 9/28, after Laker's and Kumble's ten-fors.

*Maurice Turnbull actually was a triple international. He played cricket for England and hockey and rugby for Wales and he also won the South Wales Squash Championship. He was killed in World war-II aged just 38.

*Sachin Tendulkar is the first batsman to be dismissed (run out) by using the television replays by the third umpire, Jonty Rhodes was the fielder. Next day, in the same test match,Jonty Rhodes was given run out by the umpire. This time the fielder was none other than Sachin Tendulkar.

*Anthony Stuart took 5 wickets including a hat trick in his third ODI for Australia. Strangely enough he was never picked for Australia again.

*India's 329 in Galle is the lowest Test total to include a double-century (Sehwag's 201 not out).

*John Bracewell took 4 catches as substitute vs. Australia at Adelaide 1980 and Brain McMillan of RSA & Brain Young of New Zealand took 3 catches as sub.

*In a test match in Faisalabad in 1997-98 ,Mushtaq Ahmed was bowling to Pat Symcox. Symcox missed the ball, which went on to knock the middle stump. However,the heat had fused together the bails and they did not fall. Symcox went on to make 81,his second highest test score.

*In the first ever Test in 1877, Australia beat England by 45 runs. 100 years later, in the Centenary Test ,the result was exactly the same.

*Kepler Wessels for Australia and South Africa, Carl Lambret for West Indies and USA, Craig Cummins for West Indies and Canada and Dougie Brown for England and Scotland have all played ODI cricket for two nations.

*Sunil Gavaskar was so ill tempered that his parents had to take him to a psychiatrist to check up if there was something wrong with him.

*Sir Richard Hadlee has captained New Zealand in test cricket. His brother Dayle, and father Walter also played test cricket for New Zealand while another brother Barry played ODIs for New Zealand. His wife, Karen has also represented New Zealand in women's cricket.

*England's Len Hutton and Australia's Bill Lawry and Bill Woodfull are the only three batsmen to have carried their bats through an innings twice in their careers.

*During a County match in 1986, a batsman hit the ball and ran three runs but dropped the bat in the process. The bowler picked up the bat. When the ball was returned from the boundary, the bowler stopped it with the bat . For fielding the ball with any other substance than the person , the penalty is 5 runs. So the batsman got eight runs in that ball.

*England lost the 1987 World Cup to Australia by seven runs despite being in a great position initially.

*Australia has played in the World Cup finals on six occasions, in 1975, 1987, 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2007. They won on four occasions, in 1987, 1999, 2003 and 2007. 

*Sohail Tanvir's figures of 10-0-87-1 in the Asia Cup are the most expensive ever by a Pakistani bowler against India

*The only law of Cricket that has not had any changes or modifications, is the length of the pitch.

*Sir Gary Sobers became the first man to hit six sixes in an over when he scored 36 runs off Malcolm Andrew Nash of Glamorgan in county cricket on the 31st August 1968, at Swansea in the United Kingdom.

*GG Arnold picked up a four wicket haul for England against Australia in the 4th ODI ever - at Edgbaston. 1972.

*Former Indian left arm spinner Venkatpathy Raju was popularly called 'Muscles' because of the lack of muscles in him while he played.

*The record for the highest match aggregate by both teams is 1981 runs for 35 wickets in the South Africa vs. England test match in 1938/1939. 

*WE Midwinter (in 1880s), WL Murdoch (in 1870s), JJ Ferris (in 1890s), AE Trott (in 1900s) and SMJ Woods (in 1990s) first represented Australia then played test match cricket for England.

*Marlon Samuels (WI) is the only player who has both batted as well bowled in a same Super-Over of the T20 tie match vs New Zealand.

*During the match between India vs. Srilanka of 1992 World cup, match was initially reduced to 20 overs a side due to rain. A helicopter was used to dry the pitch but as play began rain fell again, washing out the game.

*The record for the longest a batsman has been at the crease and not scored a single run in all first-class cricket was set in a Test match by Geoff Allott, New Zealand's number 11, who batted 101 minutes against South Africa at Auckland on 2 March 1999.

*Sandeep Patil from India once hit six fours in an over of Bob Willis of England. He did this in Leeds while playing a Test match against England.

*The record for the most consecutive scores of 0 is jointly held by RG Holland of Australia and AB Agarkar with 5 in a row.

*Adam Gilchrist (5 times), Alec Stewart, Ridley Jacobs, Mark Boucher and MS Dhoni have all taken 6 catches in an ODI.
*Sir Len Hutton (England) is the batsman to have been given out obstructing the field. P.A. de Silva refused to leave the field when given out obstructing the fielder in the Sri-Lanka vs. New-Zealand match at Wellington in 1977. Under pressure the umpire was persuaded to reverse his decision.

*Wasim Akram hit 12 sixes against Zimbabwe when he scored 257* in 1996/1997, a record for the most sixes in a Test innings at that time.

*Virender Sehwag is only the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to have carried his bat thorughout an innings. Gavaskar did it against Pakistan at Faisalabad in 1983 while Sehwag's innings came against Sri Lanka at Galle in 2008.

*It was a county match in 1946. After two overs had been bowled, Len Hutton, who was fielding at slips asked the umpires to check the length of the pitch. The check discovered that the pitch was 24 yards long instead of 22. Then the match was restarted on a correct pitch.

*In 1958 playing against New Zealand at Headingley England's innings were opened by a rugby player and a football player. Arthur Milton represented England in one football match (vs. Austria in 1951) and Mike Smith won one rugby cap for England (vs. Wales in 1956).

*F Hearne (in 1890s) and F Mitchell (in 1900s) first played for England then represented South Africa.

*Gul Mohammad, AH Kardar and Amir Elahi played test match for India before representing Pakistan post partition.

*"The Wisden Cricketer," an English magazine, claims Murali Muralitharan of Sri Lanka is the greatest bowler of all time.

*OC Scott (WI) has most expensive figures in a test match (both innings combined). His bowling figures are 374/9 against England at Kingston in 1929-30.

*M.L. Jaisimha and Ravi Shastri have both batted on all five days of a Test Match. Only two others have achieved this, Englishmen Geoff Boycott and Alan Lamb, and Australia's Kim Hughes.

*David Houghton (Zim) was a wicketkeeper batsman player cum coach for the cricket team and was also the goal keeper for the Zimbabwe national hockey team.

*In a Pakistan vs. England ODI at Perth in January 1987, Ramiz Raja was caught off a no-ball, but, failing to hear the umpire's call, left his crease to return to the pavilion. He was then given out run out by the square leg umpire

*During the 1992 World cup 8 out of 39 matches rain interrupted/halted the play.

*Even after a major hip operation had reduced his pace and hostility, Angus Fraser twice took eight wickets in a Test innings.

*Jack Ryder (Aus) was the first batsman to score six consecutive Test fifties.

*WG Grace played his last match in club cricket at the age of 66, for Eltham at home to Northbrook. In an anticlimactic end for such a colossus, he didn't bat or bowl and the match ended in a draw.

*Robert Charles "Jack" Russell's 11 dismissals for England against South Africa at Johannesburg in 1995-96 set a world record for all Test cricket.

*When Rod Marsh skied a ball from Mike Hendrick into the covers at Headingley in 1977, brilliant and extrovert fielder Derek Randall held the catch, then performed a cartwheel which reflected the feelings of the whole country as England had regained the Ashes.

*Jonty Rhodes of South Africa once took 5 catches against West Indies at Mumbai.

*India entered 8 out of 11 Asia cup finals but never had faced Pakistan in the final. They faced Srilanka in all the 8 times.

*Australian fast-medium left-armer Bill Whitty's 65 Test wickets cost only 21.12 each, largely as a result of the 1910-11 series against South Africa, in which he took 37 wickets. When the visitors needed only 170 to win at Melbourne, Whitty took 6 for 17 to bowl them out for 80.

*Essex slow left-armer John Childs made his debut at Old Trafford in 1988, in the process becoming the oldest to make his England bow since 38-year-old Dick Howorth in 1947.
