Most Practiced Sport Activities for 2012

As a great way to keep fit, have fun and stay healthy, sport has always played a big part in people’s lifestyles. There are so many sports to choose from that it is usually difficult to pick just one sport to practice. During 2012, the Olympic Games were held in London, and with more than ten thousand participants competing, was nothing short of amazing.

Martial Arts became a big favourite with kids mainly in the United States of America this year. With more and more youngsters signing up for classes, it comes as no surprise that this form of keeping fit was included in the Olympic Games. Three hundred and eighty six people entered as contestants for martial arts set, Judo.


Swimming is a very fun sport to take part in and is one of the best ways to keep fit.  Every year more and more people get involved in swimming by joining clubs and taking part in competitions. During 2012, the strongest swimmers were Americans, winning thirty one medals in total, sixteen of which were gold. There are four main styles of swimming which all help to work your muscles in different ways. This is a great way to get blood pumping through the veins and oxygen through the lungs.

This year the Paralympics were also held, giving disabled people the chance to partake in the competitions. There were twenty one sports which disabled people were able to compete in, including wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball. Having the Paralympics held again this year brought smiles to many people’s faces and gave everybody the chance to show what they can do. With so many talented faces all over the world, it only seems fair that they should be able to compete against others like themselves even if they do have a disability of some sort.

Football is a sport loved by people all over the world. Originating in England all those years ago, it is now a sport which is played in all countries across the globe. It’s classed as a sport that anyone can play as you only really need a ball and twenty two players. It keeps team spirit alive and keeps you fit. By playing this game, players are determined to score and save goals, which makes it all that much more interesting.

By taking part in a sport, either as a hobby or something more serious, you are assuring your body the right amount of exercise that it needs to function properly and keep you feeling healthy and fit. Warm up exercises should be taken into account and practiced before all sports as you need to protect your joints and limbs as much as you can, therefore avoiding straining muscles or worse. Drinking water is also vital when playing sports as when your body works, sweat is produced which causes water loss and a need for fluids in the body. If you stick to remembering those few tips, you will find sport being a fun activity that everyone can enjoy!
