Top Three Vegetarian Options in Canmore

Unknown | 7:17 PM |

So you’re going to Canmore, just outside of Calgary, which is world renowned for its AAA Alberta Beef! And although this might make some people’s tongue hang out of their mouth and drool in a dripping wet mess of deliciousness, it doesn’t make yours. Why? You’re either enjoying a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle. Cool!

Not to worry all you veggie huggers out there. Even though Canmore is a small town of 10,000 people, it prides itself in its innovative dining options. And yes that includes high quality veggie fare! I’ve tested out the market and am pleased to announce they hold true to their claim. Not only is Canmore very entrepreneurial in nature, the community is also huge into environmental sustainability and protection.
After your feast enjoy a stay at BellstarResorts in Canmore, where you can put your feet up, knowing you’ve done your part!

Below are my favorite veggie joints.

Communitea Cafe
This cafe was top on my lists of places to eat! Not only did I love their name and play on words, but I also heard it was the place where all the locals go. Although they do serve meat, they have a huge amount of vegetarian and vegan-friendly options. Caffeine and sugar was my choice to start the day. I had one of their incredible Americanos and munched on their very popular vegan chocolate cake; dense and chocolaty and perfect for anyone with the craving or PMSing. Comminitea has over 80 varieties of tea, serves fair trade coffee and chocolate, as well is licensed to sell alcohol. The atmosphere is bright and open, and there is a large space for outdoor seating, which is perfect especially in the summer months.

Commintea Cafe is open Monday to Friday between 9am to 4pm; and Saturday to Sunday between 9am to 5pm.

Elita
This restaurant was formerly Sunfood Cafe, however has changed ownership. Like Commitea, they do serve meat, but there are over seven veggie dishes to choose from. You get a faire amount of good quality food, which is wonderfully seasoned and bold in flavor! This is the place to go if you love feisty food, and not, if your forte is bland flavor. The chefs are very accommodating and even adapted the meat dishes on the menu, to vegetarian fare.

Elita is opened every day of the week for lunch and dinner.

Nutter’s
Sometimes it’s nice to pick up some healthy goodies, take things into your own hands and go for a picnic! And that’s exactly what the well-known chain health food store, Nutter’s, gives you the freedom to do. Grab a bag of kale chips, some organic trail mix, a crisp natural drink, and head straight for the mountains!
