Mr Gates, who is on a day-long visit to the state, met Mr Yadav at 1:30 pm. They were expected to discuss healthcare programmes in the state that Mr Gates intends to take up through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a charitable organization that he runs along with his wife.
Members of the Gates' foundation have already had preliminary meetings with state government officials from the health and family welfare department to lay the ground work for the meeting between the two. The 56-year-old Gates was also expected to present a five-point programme to unveil his foundation's plans in healthcare across sectors like maternal care, nutrition, family planning and child health care.
Mr Gates is also understood to be particularly interested in taking up initiatives like polio eradication and other vaccinations, which are in poor state in the state.
He is also expected to visit an urban slum in Lucknow later in the day.
