The Korean mobile manufacturer LG announced the launch of its 5-inch handset – Optimus Vu at Mobile World Congress 2012 held in February. Initially, LG released the much-like phablet only in Korea and Japan.
However, in a recent development, LG has confirmed on all the specs of the new phone and has also revealed that Optimus Vu can be expected to arrive in across the globe sometime this September.
In a recent press release issued by the company, it has been informed that LG Optimus Vu
would be an Android OS-powered handset, which would boast all the
high-end specifications and an up-to-date hardware under the hood to
outmuscle the sales figures of direct competitors to the handset,
including Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – the successor of the popular Galaxy Note.
LG Optimus Vu
will be released in selected markets such as Middle East, Asia, Europe,
Latin America and Africa, while it will reach the US market by the next
quarter.
Moreover,
the company made an announcement stating that they have achieved a
global sales of over 500,000 units of Optimus Vu, since its debut in
March.
Reportedly,
Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics said, “The
different form factor makes Optimus Vu: unique even in the 5-inch
smartphone category which we expect will catch on once they become more
widely available.”
LG Optimus Vu – What features to expect?
The LG Optimus Vu
will run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, sporting a 5 inch HD-IPS
capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 768 x 1024 pixels.
Further, the international variant of the Optimus Vu will be loaded with
a quad core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, 8MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front
facing camera.
Numerous
reports are predicting that LG is planning to release the phablet at
the IFA 2012 event, which is scheduled to be held in Berlin in late
August.
Potential Rival – Samsung Galaxy Note 2
The
King of Android phablets – the much awaited – Samsung Galaxy Note 2
will also be unboxed by the South Korean giant at IFA 2012 events 2012.
The Galaxy Note 2 is expected to feature a 5.5 inch flexible Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, quad core Exynos 5250 processor, all accompanied by a Samsung’s S Pen stylus.
Meanwhile,
the media world is doing comparison of Samsung Note 2 with all major
smartphones in the market, which include HTC rumored phablets and
others, it might be possible that the heavyweight will face a major
competition from the unexpected LG Optimus Vu on the basis of performance, user-friendly capabilities and the price factor as well.
