The
year 2012 has witnessed an era of revolution in the tech consumer goods
category especially the smartphone and tablet market. While,
manufacturers like Apple and HTC have released their biggest bets with
hefty specs to score the market share, at the same time the tech media
world has also been laid by the unveiling of devices which have come out
with terrific USPs to lure the consumers.
The
talk is about, South Korean giant latest offering – the smartphone with
a projector – Samsung Galaxy Beam and, the Finnish phone maker’s
innovation – the whopping 41 megapixel camera handset – Nokia 808
PureView.
Both the bold and beautiful
devices were unveiled by their respective manufacturers in MWC 2012 and
have been the talk of the town since then. Currently the smartphones
have hit the Indian retail stores, hence Gizbot has come up with
comparison between Nokia 808 PureView and Samsung Galaxy Beam, to find
out which one is more special for you.
Display and Dimension:
Samsung Galaxy Beam measures 124 x 64.2 x 12.5 mm and weighs 145 grams,
while the Nokia 808 PureView measures 123.9 x 60.2 x 13.9 mm and weighs
169 grams.
Both handsets feature 4-inch display. However, the Galaxy Beam has Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 480 x 800 pixels resolution (aprrox. 233 ppi), on the other hand, 808 Pureview sports a AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 360 x 640 pixels resolution (approx. 184 ppi).
However,
Galaxy Beam features an in-built nHD 15 lumen projector at the top,
which can be used for sharing multimedia content like photos and videos.
Operating System: The Galaxy Beam runs on the Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread OS. However, it can be upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
Being
a Nokia handset, the PureView runs on Symbian Belle OS, which is
outdated and void of advanced features supported by other smartphone
operating systems.
Processor: Galaxy
Beam is powered by a 1GHz dual core Cortex A9 processor while Nokia 808
PureView is powered by a 1.3 GHz ARM 11 processor.
Camera: In
this segment of course, Nokia’s handset wins with it 41-mepaixel
mammoth camera capable of recording videos at 1080p, equipped with Carl
Zeiss imaging optics along with a secondary VGA camera.
While,
Samsung Beam has 5 megapixel 2592 x 1944 pixels camera capable of
recording videos at 720p and a 1.3-megapixel secondary camera.
Storage: Galaxy
Beam comes with an internal storage of 8GB and 768 MB RAM while 808
PureView comes with an internal storage of 16GB and 512 MB RAM. However,
both the handsets have a micro SD card slot, which supports expandable
memory up to 32 GB.
Connectivity: Both
the smartphones come with connectivity features such as Bluetooth 3.0
with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Hotspot, HSDPA 14.4 Mpbs,
HSUPA 5.76 Mbps and micro USB 2.0. Furthermore, the PureView has NFC and
USB on to go support.
Battery:
Samsung Galaxy Beam is powered by a 2000 mAh Li-ion that offers a talk
time of 9.5 hours and a standby time of 760 hours whereas Nokia 808
PureView is loaded with a 1400 mAh Li-ion battery that offers a talk
time of 7 hours and a standby time of 540 hours approximately.
Price:
The Samsung Galaxy Beam is available at Rs 29,900 from the Samsung
eStore, while the Nokia 808 PureView is available at Rs 34,499 from the
Nokia Shop.
Verdict
Samsung
Galaxy Beam and Nokia 808 PureView cannot be compared to the high end
smartphones, that are available in the current market, as they do not
have advanced specifications. However, they have special assets like the
in-built projector and advanced camera in them, which make them stand
alone from the crowd. The PureView handset might be having an award winning camera, but its OS is definitely a great downside. Moreover,
the both the smartphones are priced similar to high end devices, which
is another reason that could drive away the potential budget conscious consumers.
