Firefox provides users with the option to save log in
information while they use services like mail, banking, social
networking etc on their Android device. However users familiar with the
password section in Firefox can access the stored passwords. To prevent
such a situation, Firefox allows users to set a master password which
will protect their accounts if the device is used by someone else. If
you set a master password, Firefox will prompt you to provide it every
time it needs access to you stored passwords.
The
usernames and passwords could only be unlocked by providing the master
password. Firefox will again lock up the passwords upon quitting the
browser.
To set up a master passwords, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open Firefox on your Android device
- Tap on the hardware menu button
- Tap on Settings
- Select the Use Master password checkbox
- Provide the password in the entry field
- Retype the password to confirm
- Tap on Ok
This will set the master password which will protect your log in information in future. Passwords will stop syncing in Firefox for Android once the master password has been set.
If you want to disable the service of master password, you can get it done by following the steps below.
- Open Firefox on your Android device
- Tap on the hardware menu button
- Tap on Settings
- Select the Use Master Password checkbox
- Provide your master password in the entry field
- Tap on OK to remove the master password
Once the master password is disabled, passwords will start syncing in Firefox for Android.
If
you forget your master password you will have to reset it. Once you
reset the master password, all the saved passwords will be erased. To
reset the master password, follow the steps given below.
- Open Firefox on your Android device
- Tap on the location bar
- Enter “chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul” on the location bar
- A new window will appear which will have “Reset Master password” option
- Tap on the Reset button
Your master password will be reset.
