At the special event today in NYC, the Taiwanese firm HTC along with software giant Microsoft splashed the tech media world with two colourful Windows Phone 8 OS smartphone offerings — the Windows Phone 8X and 8S. As a direct competitor to the newly launched Nokia Lumia 920, 820 handsets, HTC’s new offspring also come packed with breath-taking specifications and innovative software features.
“We’ve been inspired by Windows Phone 8 to create new smartphones that give the platform the iconic design and personality it deserves,” said Peter Chou, HTC’s chief executive at the media event.
“Windows Phone has clearly emerged as one of the top mobile ecosystems and is competitive against any other smartphone platform in the world.”
Let us take a look at the key specs of both the new smartphones individually.
Key Specs — HTC 8S
The Windows Phone 8S is the mid-level version of the new HTC Windows Phone 8 range, which will boast a Gorilla Glass protected 4-inch Super LCD display with 480 x 800 pixels of resolution. The next-generation 8S handset will come powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor Snapdragon S4 processor along with 512MB RAM. Further, the handset would sport a 5 megapixel rear camera with 720p HD video recording capability, a front-facing 720p HD camera for making video calls, 16GB of built-in storage accompanied with microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB.
Adding to that HTC 8S will also come with the likes of Beats Audio integration, Bluetooth 2.1, dual-band 802.11 Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, NFC, GPS with GLONASS, microUSB 2.0, 3.5mm audio jack, Bing Maps, Xbox Live Games and a hefty 1,700mAh battery.
Key Specs — HTC 8X
When talking about HTC 8X, which would hit the market as tough challenger against Nokia Lumia 920, it is definitely a smart equipped with decent hardware under the hood.
The key specs of HTC Windows Phone 8X smartphone includes Windows Phone 8 OS out of the box, 4.3-inch Super LCD 2 display with 1280 x 720 pixels of resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset with two Krait cores clocked at 1.5GHz, 1GB RAM, an 8 megapixel BSI sensor with HTC ImageChip technology, 1080p HD video recording capability, a front-facing 2.1 megapixel camera for making video calls, 16GB of built-in storage along with microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB
Additionally, HTC 8X will also come packed with Beats Audio integration, Bluetooth 2.1, dual-band 802.11 Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, NFC, microUSB 2.0, 3.5mm audio jack, Bing Maps, Xbox Live Games and a big 1,800mAh battery.
Price and Availability
HTC has still not outed any details on the prices of the two new Windows Phone 8 handsets, however the company has confirmed that HTC Windows Phone 8S and 8X handset will be available to purchase in the beginning of November, over 150 major carriers in more than 50 countries
While the 8S would hit the retail shelves in the colours including Domino, Fiesta Red, Atlantic Blue, and High-Rise Gray, the 8X would be available in range of colours including California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow in November.
