50 improvements that make Google search faster, better, safer

Google has pushed fifty improvements in terms of how it collects, computes and presents search related information and results.

Perhaps the most significant upgrade in terms of end-users is the fact that Google will no longer ignore punctuation marks within search queries. This means IPL and #IPL will now yield distinct results. For details see our earlier story

Image search fans should find more relevant results for their queries while video search also gets an update that means fresher content is more likely to be ranked higher in search results.

Mobile search UI gets a revamp, with the richer results while looking up an Android or iOS app. The results will feature ratings, rankings, price and a download button, all designed to fit the screen of a mobile device.

While most of the other improvements are related to Google infrastructure and how it ranks pages, Google also claims to have fixed a bug that may have prevented certain search sessions from logging out like they should when a user changes his/ her password.

The always popular live-results function gets additional content, with live/ last results from UEFA Champions League and Russian Hockey League (KHL). Google already features live scores from the American leagues NFL, NBA and NHL. Tennis makes an entry, with live/ last scores when you query a player or a tournament.

Other improvements include a faster, better autocomplete for all search queries and safer browsing delivered via an improved SafeSearch algorithm.
