Only a couple of
year’s back, even the high end devices came with under a GB of RAM and that was
plenty. The apps and games weren’t very resource hungry and neither were the
operating systems. But eventually the operating systems and apps grew resource
hungry. Some OEM specific operating systems take up more than a GB of RAM just
to keep running, add to that the memory requirements of that new game you
downloaded. So even 2 GB isn’t enough anymore. Now if you are planning to hold
on to a device for long, you should pick something with more memory than that
so that you are running a capable hardware for long. Here we list down some of
the best devices that come with 3 GB RAM to simplify the decision for you.
Samsung Galaxy Note Edge
The Note Edge is
pretty much a glorified Note 4 and we are not complaining. After a failed
attempt with the Galaxy Round, they made another try and came up with this. On
this device they have smartly used the display bit on edge to handle other
functions. It has got a 5.6 inch display and a resolution of 1600 x 2560. The
curved edge has got different shortcuts for quick access and it takes up
different roles at different times. While there are not a lot of applications
that use the extra display, developers will soon find new things to do with
that. It also gets fingerprint scanner and heart rate sensor like the Galaxy
Note 4. And then there is the excellent S pen which makes these large screen Samsung
devices worth.
Apart from the
fancy display, there is another reason we recommend this device over Note 4.
The Galaxy Note 4 sold in India runs the Exynos chipset instead of the Qualcomm
one and for obvious reasons, we prefer the latter. The Note Edge runs
Snapdragon 805 chipset with 2.7 GHz quad core processor. It comes with Adreno
420 GPU and 3 GB of RAM. It gets an excellent 16 megapixel camera with optical
image stabilization which can also record 120 fps or 4K videos. The device is
powered by a 3000 mAh battery.
Motorola Moto Turbo
This is another
excellent device that can give the device listed above a good run for money. It
packs in an AMOLED QHD display that measures 5.2 inches. The display quality is
very good with impressive contrast ratio and well saturated colours. The device
is designed well and is easy to hold. It runs the same chipset as the Galaxy
Note Edge with the processor running at same clock speed. It gets 3 GB of RAM
and 64 GB of internal storage. There is no memory card slot and with this much
storage, you won’t need one either. It has got a really nice 21 megapixel
camera with dual LED flash on rear. The software that this device uses is
pretty much vanilla android with few additions by Motorola. On top of this
excellent package, it gets a 3900 mAh battery which would provide long standby
times and with the quick charge feature, it can be charged to provide 8 hour of
battery life in just 15 minutes.
Sony Xperia Z3
Sony brings in
flagship devices so quickly that most people have lost track of what they come
up with anymore. On top of that their devices are just slightly different from
each other which makes it even worse. But that doesn’t mean the devices are any
bad. In fact they are getting better with every device and the Xperia Z3 is
quite an impressive phone with 3GB RAM. While it retains the Xperia family design, there is a metal
band along the sides which looks premium. It has a full HD 5.2 inch display
which isn’t the best out there but does the job well. The device is waterproof
and dustproof like other devices in the series. The processing jobs are handled
by a 2.5 GHz processor running on a Snapdragon 801 chipset. It has got 3 GB of
RAM and 16 GB of internal storage along with memory card slot. This device gets
an excellent 20.7 megapixel camera which performs well even in low light.
LG G3
This was the
very first device from a mainstream manufacturer to come with a QHD display. It
gets a 5.5 inch IPS LCD display which is really crisp. The device is very sleek
and the large display size is well contained. It gets the controls on back like
the G2 to make them easily accessible. It runs a Snapdragon 801 chipset with
2.5 GHz quad core processor and 3 GB of RAM. There is 32 GB of on-board storage
and a micro SD card slot. On the back of that sleek body, it houses an
impressive 13 megapixel camera which comes with optical image stabilisation and
laser auto focus. This makes it really fast while focussing and the image
stabilisation allows for longer exposures without blur. It is powered by a 3000
mAh battery which provides up to 565 hours of standby.
OnePlus One
This was the
device everyone went crazy about when it was announced. It was termed as the
flagship killer last year (by its manufacturers only) and it managed to
generate a lot of buzz around it. It has got a sleek design with impressive
built quality and gets a 5.5 inch full HD display. It runs Qualcomm Snapdragon
801 chipset which was seen on most flagship devices when it was launched. Along
with that it gets 3 GB of RAM. The device is offered in two different storage
variants, 16 GB and 64 GB. The camera on this device uses a Sony sensor and is
pretty decent. The highlight of this device is the cyanogen mod OS it runs. While
for India they are working on their own OS for some reasons, you can still
install cyanogen on your device and enjoy the endless customisation options.
