Japanese
manufacturer’s rumored Sony RX1 full-frame point-and-shoot camera has
surfaced in the online tech media world, after Canadian website – Photoprice Canada and sonyalpharumors published
photos of the camera, which looks like a beefier version of the
highly-acclaimed RX100 compact camera (which has a smaller 1-inch
sensor).
According
to the report, Sony RX1 might come featuring the same 24-megapixel
image sensor as the supposed A99 DSLR. The RX1 would be capable of
producing 14-bit RAW files and boast an ISO range between 100 and
25,600. The new camera could also be capable of shooting 5
frames-per-second in burst mode, recording 1080p full-HD videos as well
as feature a 3-inch screen and would come equipped with a Carl Zeiss
35mm F2 fixed-focal length lens.
The
major disappointment however, is the lack of a lens-release button. The
device is also rumored to have a 14 bit RAW and is expected to support
an ISO range from 100 to 25,600. Sony RX1 is also tipped to feature a 3
inch screen similar to that of A99 model from Sony however it will not
have the smart three way tilting system.
Image
also showcases the device having a pop up flash along with a hot shoe
for accommodating bigger flash equipments from Sony. Mode dials for DSLR
like controls are accommodated along with the option for custom
settings. Although the incorporation of a full frame sensor looks
promising there is a possibility of having the sensor overpopulated with
pixels reducing the image quality dramatically.
No
actual information regarding the price of this breakthrough product has
been mentioned by the company. But RX1 is expected to arrive at a price
tag of around $2700- $3000 (Rs 1,50,000 -1,66,000).
Analysts
have concluded the heavy price to be irrational for a camera with fixed
lens. However it will be interesting to know how Sony will bring the game on, fighting competition from the likes of Nikon D800.
